10 ICONIC MEME COINS OF ALL TIME: SURVIVAL FILES AND HISTORIC SCARS

10 ICONIC MEME COINS OF ALL TIME: SURVIVAL FILES AND HISTORIC SCARS

Meme coins do not survive because of complex technology promises.

They survive because they attract attention, build communities and recover from destructive market crashes.

Below are the profiles of 10 meme coins that have had the greatest cultural and economic influence in crypto history.

Supply and market-cap data were reviewed on October 12, 2026. Market values change continuously. Peak figures are rounded and may differ between data platforms.

  1. DOGECOIN (DOGE) — THE FATHER OF MEME COIN CULTURE

Blockchain: An independent Proof-of-Work Layer 1 with code roots in Luckycoin and Litecoin.

Creators: Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer.

Supply: No maximum supply. Approximately 5.256 billion new DOGE are issued each year. The current circulating supply is about 156.3 billion DOGE.

Peak market cap: Approximately $88.8 billion in May 2021.

Reference market cap: Approximately $13.5 billion.

Survival event:

By 2015, neither founder was directly managing the project. Jackson Palmer publicly criticized the crypto market. Billy Markus sold most of his DOGE holdings for an amount that was only enough to buy a used car.

DOGE was almost forgotten for several years. However, its network continued operating and its community remained active.

In 2020 and 2021, Reddit, TikTok and attention from Elon Musk turned Dogecoin into a global phenomenon.

Dogecoin did not only survive. It created an entire category of digital assets.

  1. SHIBA INU (SHIB) — THE SHIB ARMY AND VITALIK’S DECISION

Blockchain: Ethereum, later expanded through the Shibarium network.

Creator: An anonymous person known as Ryoshi.

Supply: The initial supply was one quadrillion SHIB. Approximately 590 trillion SHIB are now in circulation.

Peak market cap: Approximately $41 billion in October 2021.

Reference market cap: Approximately $3.2–$3.3 billion.

Survival event:

Ryoshi sent 50% of the total SHIB supply to Vitalik Buterin’s wallet without a prior agreement.

In May 2021, Vitalik used part of those tokens to support Covid-19 relief in India. The event happened during a major crypto market correction, and SHIB lost much of its value.

Vitalik later sent more than 410 trillion SHIB to a dead wallet. This removed most of the supply concentration risk connected to his wallet.

The SHIB Army continued to grow, and SHIB reached a record market value later in 2021.

  1. PEPE (PEPE) — SURVIVING AN INTERNAL CRISIS

Blockchain: Ethereum, using the ERC-20 standard.

Creator: An anonymous development team inspired by Matt Furie’s Pepe character.

Initial supply: 420.69 trillion PEPE. Part of the supply was later burned.

Peak market cap: Approximately $11–$12 billion in 2024.

Reference market cap: Approximately $1.7 billion.

Survival event:

In August 2023, three former team members transferred approximately 16 trillion PEPE, worth about $15 million, from the project’s multisignature wallet.

The tokens were sent to several centralized exchanges. The wallet’s signing rules were also changed. The event caused a sharp price decline and raised fears of a rug pull.

The remaining team member publicly explained the incident. In October 2023, 6.9 trillion PEPE were burned. Approximately 3.8 trillion tokens remained after the burn.

PEPE later recovered public attention and reached a new record in 2024.

  1. OFFICIAL TRUMP (TRUMP) — A POLITICAL FINANCE EARTHQUAKE

Native blockchain: Solana.

Launch date: January 17, 2025, through GetTrumpMemes.com.

Related entities: Fight Fight Fight LLC and CIC Digital LLC.

Supply: The announced total supply is one billion TRUMP. Initially, 200 million tokens were circulating. By October 2026, approximately 282 million TRUMP were in circulation.

Peak market cap: More than $14 billion. Peak fully diluted valuation reached approximately $70–$75 billion.

Reference market cap: Approximately $540 million.

Survival event:

TRUMP brought a major political brand directly into the Web3 speculation market and generated enormous trading activity on Solana.

However, 80% of the initial supply was allocated to entities connected to the project and follows an unlocking schedule.

The concentrated supply and future unlocks create significant dilution risk. The large decline from its peak shows that brand power cannot remove tokenomics risk.

───────────────

  1. BONK (BONK) — A SYMBOL OF SOLANA’S RECOVERY

Blockchain: Solana.

Creator: An anonymous team from the Solana ecosystem.

Supply: The initial supply was approximately 100 trillion BONK. About 88 trillion tokens remain after several burns.

Peak market cap: Approximately $4.4–$4.6 billion in 2024.

Reference market cap: Approximately $308 million.

Survival event:

BONK appeared during Christmas 2022, when the Solana ecosystem was suffering from the collapse of FTX.

Half of the initial supply was distributed to the Solana community. After its first rally, BONK lost more than 85% of its value and remained quiet for several months.

Solana recovered in late 2023. BONK also returned because of community support, rising liquidity and an airdrop connected to the Solana Saga phone.

BONK became a symbol of the Solana ecosystem’s ability to recover.

  1. DOGWIFHAT (WIF) — THE POWER OF A PURE MEME

Blockchain: Solana.

Creator: Anonymous.

Supply: Approximately 998.84 million WIF.

Peak market cap: Approximately $4.8 billion in March 2024.

Reference market cap: Approximately $220 million.

Survival event:

WIF does not have a complex ecosystem or a major technology roadmap.

It has one simple image: a Shiba Inu dog wearing a pink knitted hat.

That simple image, combined with humor and the Solana community, pushed WIF to a market value of almost $4.8 billion.

WIF showed that a memorable symbol can sometimes be more powerful than hundreds of pages in a whitepaper.

───────────────

  1. FLOKI (FLOKI) — RESTRUCTURING ITS CONTRACT TO SURVIVE

Blockchain: Ethereum and BNB Chain.

Origin: Created in 2021 after Elon Musk posted about a dog named Floki.

Maximum supply: 10 trillion FLOKI. Approximately 9.5–9.6 trillion are circulating.

Peak market cap: Approximately $3.3 billion in 2024.

Reference market cap: Approximately $264 million.

Survival event:

The first FLOKI contract had problems with inflation and its transaction-tax structure. The original developer was replaced, and the community moved to a new contract.

After the restructuring, FLOKI launched large advertising campaigns in major cities and expanded into the Valhalla game, DeFi and other Web3 products.

FLOKI no longer depends only on the image of a dog. The project is trying to build a wider brand with multiple products and activities.

  1. PUDGY PENGUINS (PENGU) — FROM AN NFT CRISIS TO RETAIL STORES

PENGU blockchain: Solana.

Current developer: Pudgy Penguins and Igloo Inc. Luca Netz acquired the brand in 2022.

Maximum supply: 88,888,888,888 PENGU. Approximately 62.86 billion tokens are circulating.

Peak market cap: The launch-day record price implied a valuation of about $4 billion. During more stable trading periods, PENGU still exceeded a $2 billion market cap.

Reference market cap: Approximately $514 million.

Survival event:

Pudgy Penguins began as an NFT collection in 2021. Conflict between the community and the original founders nearly destroyed the brand.

In 2022, Luca Netz acquired the project for approximately $2.5 million.

The new team placed Pudgy Penguins toys in thousands of Walmart stores and later expanded into Target and other retail channels.

PENGU is a rare example of a digital-asset ecosystem supported by a consumer brand, physical products and real-world commercial activity.

───────────────

  1. BABY DOGE COIN (BABYDOGE) — TOKEN BURNS AND ANIMAL CHARITY

Blockchain: Launched on BNB Chain and later expanded to Ethereum, Solana, Base and TON.

Creator: An anonymous development team.

Initial supply: 420 quadrillion BABYDOGE.

According to the project’s September 2026 documents, more than 217 quadrillion tokens had been burned. Total supply was approximately 202 quadrillion, with about 179 quadrillion tokens circulating.

Peak market cap: Approximately $1–$1.2 billion, depending on the supply figure used for the December 2024 peak.

Reference market cap: Approximately $70–$72 million.

Survival event:

Baby Doge grew rapidly in 2021 because of its community and social-media attention. It later suffered a deep decline during the crypto winter.

The project remained active through token burns, Web3 products and animal-welfare campaigns.

Baby Doge shows how a meme coin can extend its life by connecting its community identity with a simple social mission.

───────────────

  1. BRETT (BRETT) — A SURVIVAL TEST FOR MEME COINS ON BASE

Blockchain: Base, the Layer-2 network developed by Coinbase.

Origin: An independent community project using Brett, a character from Matt Furie’s Boys’ Club comic.

BRETT was not issued by Coinbase, Base or Matt Furie.

Supply: Nearly 10 billion BRETT.

Peak market cap: Approximately $2.3 billion in 2024.

Reference market cap: Approximately $58–$59 million.

Survival event:

BRETT became an unofficial mascot and one of the most recognizable meme coins on Base.

After its strong rise in 2024, BRETT lost most of its market value during the following correction.

The token still has a community and a strong cultural position on Base. However, it has not yet demonstrated the long-term recovery power of DOGE, SHIB or BONK.

BRETT remains an important test of whether a young Layer-2 ecosystem can maintain retail liquidity.

AUDIT LESSONS FROM KYCFIRST

Most meme coins lose liquidity or disappear when market attention moves elsewhere.

The survivors leave three important lessons.

  1. LOCKED LIQUIDITY DOES NOT GUARANTEE COMPLETE SAFETY

Renounced contract ownership and locked liquidity can reduce certain risks.

However, these mechanisms do not stop whales, early buyers or connected wallets from accumulating a large share of the supply and selling it later.

  1. SCARS SHOW THE ABILITY TO SURVIVE

A project that has survived a crisis, a major price collapse or the departure of its founders has demonstrated meaningful historical resilience.

However, surviving in the past does not guarantee survival in the future.

  1. MARKET CAP IS NOT CASH HELD IN A VAULT

A token reaching a market cap of $10 billion does not mean that $10 billion in real cash entered the project.

Market cap is the latest trading price multiplied by the circulating supply. When liquidity disappears, the valuation can fall very quickly.

Memes create attention.

Communities create liquidity.

But onchain transparency, healthy supply distribution and the ability to survive multiple market cycles determine which meme coins can become lasting cultural icons.
