Pump.fun is being boycotted for exactly what people are seeing.

Pump.fun is being boycotted for exactly what people are seeing.

TraderSZ (nearly 700k followers) called it straight: boycott it. The platform only extracts money and doesn’t benefit anyone, while also hurting Solana because they’re one of the biggest sellers of SOL.

Others put it more bluntly: pump.fun killed meme coin culture. Everything has become a casino. Launch coin → shill → dump → next coin. No more locked liquidity, no more communities that hold long-term, just a spinning wheel.

There’s the case of KOL 0xEthan, accused of buying first, shilling to followers, then dumping through linked wallets, making around $125k. A New York court is still hearing a RICO case against pump.fun’s parent company. Apple once removed the app from the US and India App Stores.

The numbers are cold: about 81% of meme coins on the platform dropped at least 90% from their peaks. Most died on the day they launched. Meanwhile, the platform still recorded around $18.6 million in revenue in a single week. The house wins no matter how many players lose.

But people don’t ban every casino in a country. Casinos still bring jobs, tourism, and tax revenue to the cities that have them. What needs to be eliminated are the scammers inside — the ones who cheat the players — not the table itself.

It’s the same with meme coins. Coins that are just words and charts die when the wave ends. Coins that have a story people remember, characters, and a message that gets repeated still have a place for others to come back to. Dogecoin survived because of the meme and the community. PEPE survived because of the image. Turbo survived because of a simple story told consistently.

These things aren’t “utility” in the blockchain sense. But people are willing to hold them and talk about them.

This wave of criticism is also an opportunity. Many people are tired of pure casinos. They’re looking for something with a story to tell.

Coins with no story die when the wave ends.
Coins with a story still have a place for people to find them again.
